Leilah is trying to live a normal life, but when she is visited by her 14 year-old self and the woman she is becoming, the past she’s tried to outrun comes rushing into the present. As memory and reality blur, she must face a long-silenced violation that still echoes in her life, and the future she risks if she doesn’t make a change. Through this intimate and imaginative story, Conversations With Myself is a moving journey through the realities of trauma, denial, and self-reclamation.

About The Playwright:

Viola Bennett has been a member of the Black Playwright’s Initiative at Chicago’s Black Ensemble Theater since 2015. Her short plays Stealing Home,

The Laundromat, and Par for the Course have been featured in the theater’s festival, along with my biopic musicals More Than a Maid: Hattie McDaniel Past to Present and Dreams and Fantasies: A Dorothy Dandridge Story. She’s thrilled to become involved with Lean Ensemble Theater and share her works with this local community.
